It’s the most magical time of the year and Overgate is promising a special Christmas this year with its in-centre festive activity; The Magic of Christmas.

Launching on Thursday the 13th and running until Saturday the 22nd December between 11am – 4pm, The Magic of Christmas is a free event guaranteed to bring festive cheer to young and old.

Join Santa and his mischievous street elves within the Bavarian street market as he welcomes excited children into the magical grotto. Play games before learning the story of Christmas Street and the tales behind Santa’s special interactive cuckoo clock! And that’s not all, children will also have the opportunity to take a photo with Santa and receive a mini festive chocolate bar to take home.

Put further fun into the festive by entering the Overgate Christmas Baubles competition which is giving a lucky shopper the chance to win a hamper of prizes from selected Overgate retailers. Visit the centre any time between now and the 31st of December and take a photo inside the giant Santa or Snowman baubles located on the lower mall. To enter, share the photo on social media, tagging Overgate and using #OvergateChristmas.

Augmenting Overgate’s festive offering will be a number of live choir performances in the centre. Dundee’s U3A Folksingers can be heard on Tuesday 11th December between 3pm and 4pm, Dundee Operatic Society on Thursday 13th December between 6pm and 7pm and Dee Ukes on Friday 14th December between 2pm and 3pm. All choirs can be heard on the upper mall opposite TUI/Stormfront

Elsewhere, Late Night Christmas Shopping Nights will see retailers open until 8pm on Thursday 13th and 20th of December as well as extended hours on Sundays for the final countdown.

In keeping with the season of goodwill, a Help for Kids Christmas Toy Appeal has been launched with a drop off point at the Overgate Customer Service Desk as well as within Toytown, both on the upper mall. Public toy donations will be collated before being distributed by the Help for Kids team. Last year over £10,000 worth of gifts were collected and distributed by the Social Work Department on behalf of the charity, and through the generosity of the public a similar achievement is hoped for this Christmas.

Speaking about this year’s Christmas activity, Malcolm Angus, Centre Manager, Overgate said;

This year we are bringing The Magic of Christmas to Overgate with an unmissable Bavarian-themed grotto which will be running daily from Thursday the 13th as well as choirs celebrating the season of goodwill and a fantastic festive competition.

“Along with our late-night Christmas shopping and a wide range of food and drink operators within the centre, plus convenient parking – £1 for all day Sunday parking – and over 60 big name retailers, we look forward to welcoming everyone to Overgate for the Christmas countdown.”
