DROP OFF POINT IN THE CENTRE WILL BOOST CHRISTMAS SUPPLIES FOR DUNDEE, ANGUS AND FIFE FOOD BANKS
Overgate in Dundee has announced an initiative for Food Bank Month with The Trussell Trust, the UK charity that runs a network of over 420 foodbanks that provide emergency food to people referred for support. In the last year foodbanks in The Trussell Trust Network gave 1,332,952 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis.
Launching on the 1st of October and running for the month, a number of activities will support the initiative which aims to boost Christmas supplies for food banks in Dundee, Angus and Fife.
A drop off point will be created at the Customer Service Desk within Overgate where customers will be invited to donate items such as tinned or dry foods, as well as food in jars, plus adult and baby toiletries including nappies. There will also be a selection of food goods available to purchase and to donate to the appeal at the Desk.
In the spirit of participation and giving, Overgate retailers and centre staff will be filling donation boxes with supplies for the appeal, while centre management will be volunteering at local food banks.
The Trussell Trust will also be holding an awareness campaign on the mall on 20th and 21st October.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Morag Dennis, Operations Manager, Overgate said;
“We are delighted to be announcing this initiative in October with The Trussell Trust, a wonderful charity dedicated to combating poverty and providing help to those most in need. Throughout Food Bank Month, the public will have the opportunity to boost Christmas supplies for local food banks by visiting the Customer Service Desk and speaking to any of our team who will be happy to accept donations.”
