You’ve seen the classics. Titanic, When Harry Met Sally, Casablanca. We thought we’d list some of our favourite modern-day romance films for you to tuck into this February 14th (Netflix suggestions included).

Simon is a 17-year-old with one big secret. He hasn’t told his friends or family that he is gay.     Spoiler, this one’s a tear-jerker! This could possibly go down as a classic in years to come, with its huge impact on the millennial generation, but for now, stays on our modern-day faves list. Hazel Grace and Gus meet at a cancer support group whilst Hazel Grace is suffering from lung cancer. They find reassurance and companionship in each other and embark on a journey of a lifetime…

Call Me By Your Name is set in northern Italy, in the summer of 1983. So picturesque! 17-year-old Elio is spending time with his family in their 17th-century villa, where he becomes intrigued by his father’s intern Oliver. They get to know each other over the course of the summer, a summer that will change their lives forever.

The Theory of Everything is the heart-wrenching life story of Stephen Hawking. Edie Redmayne’s portrayal of Hawking even won him an Academy Award for Best Actor back in 2015.
Follow the ups and downs of Hawking’s life, including his relationship with the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at University.

Crazy Rich Asians is arguably one of the most talked about film releases of 2018, with its all-Asian cast and becoming the top-grossing romantic comedy for 10 years! Rachel and her boyfriend Nick travel to Singapore for his best friend’s wedding where she discovers that Nick belongs to an extremely rich family and has a very judgmental mother that she will have to win round. Will she ever belong to a society that is so far apart from what she is used to?

Our final pick is another Academy Award winner, this time for Best Picture. The Shape of Water stars Elisa, a mute working in the 60s in a high-security government laboratory. There, she discovers a mysterious creature who lives in a water tank. They create an unlikely bond that could potentially land them in a lot of trouble…
