Military Wives Choir Set to Hit the Right Note for Veteran Fundraising Campaign in Overgate

Dundee shoppers are set for a major surprise on Saturday, April 2nd when a flash choir performs in aid of Scotland’s largest ex-services membership charity.

Taking place in Overgate on Saturday morning, members of Leuchar’s Military Wives Choir will come together to perform for Legion Scotland (Royal British Legion Scotland)’s ‘Give A Little For Veterans’ fundraising campaign.

Representatives from the Dundee Branch of Legion Scotland will also be in the centre on the day collecting in Debenhams from 9 a.m. until 5.30 p.m.

Officially launching on April 4th, the ‘Give A Little For Veterans’ campaign aims to raise funds that will go directly to supporting the charity’s vital work which includes providing befriending and comradeship support, respite care and disablement pension advice to veterans of all ages.

Charlie Brown, National Chairman, Legion Scotland, said: “The idea for the event arose when I saw a clip of a flash mob on my computer. I thought it would be a unique way to raise awareness of our campaign and strengthen links between the local ex-service community and the serving community at Leuchars.

We are delighted that the Military Wives Choir, Debenhams and the Overgate Centre are backing our campaign. As a nation we are very good at remembering those who fell in conflicts but sometimes we forget those who survived, or are unaware of the difficulties some may face after leaving the Armed Forces. Some veterans struggle at different points in their lives and Legion Scotland is there to provide the support they need when they need it.”

On Saturday the 15 members of the Military Wives Choir will perform ‘Hold my hand’ by Jess Glynne, ‘Top of the World’ by the Carpenters, ‘Stronger Together’ written for the Military Wives Choir organisation, and ‘Sing’ by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow.

Sarah Willatts, Event Co-ordinator, Leuchars Military Wives Choir, said: “The core values of Legion Scotland mirrors what our choir aims to do – bring people together, not only to sing but to make friends and form a support network. Being involve in the flash choir is our way to ‘Give A little For Veterans’ and support the wonderful work Legion Scotland does.”
