Retailers at Overgate have increased the centre’s overall employment figure by 13% in the run up to Christmas.

With stores including Debenhams,  JD Sports, River Island, Top Shop and Next recruiting large numbers for the festive season, almost 200 temporary jobs have been created at Overgate to ensure shoppers enjoy efficient service despite the busy time of year.

The new employees will also be an asset ahead of the Boxing Day and New Year sales when the centre is again expected to see a significant increase in footfall.

Malcolm Angus, Centre Manager at Overgate, said:
“We are happy to be say we have created almost 200 jobs in Dundee over the Christmas period.

“Local employment and ongoing employment opportunities is something the centre is keen to support in any way we can and the hope is a percentage of these Christmas temps will be kept on in a permanent position.”

The centre will be open until 9pm each Thursday until Christmas to allow extra time for ticking gifts off of lists.

There will also be plenty of festive fun for everyone. The Skype with Santa experience will run from 4pm to 7pm on the launch evening on Thursday 4th December; 12pm to 5pm from 5th to 7th December; 12pm to 5pm from 12th to 21st December other than 18th December when it will be open from 12pm to 4pm and again from 5pm to 7pm.

The Giving Tree for local charity Help for Kids will be receiving donations and local schools and choirs will be entertaining shoppers throughout the month.
