Festival Fashion

The sun has been shining over the past week and it is eventually starting to feel like summer may be approaching…. along with FESTIVAL SEASON!

We are so excited to let you know that we have recently agreed a partnership with Dundee’s brand new festival Carnival Fifty Six, taking place in Camperdown Park on 12th and 13th August. With headliners including Rudimental, Clean Bandit, The Fratellis and Mark Ronson, this is one you do not want to miss. We don’t want to give away too much just yet, but we would recommend visiting Overgate on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June to be in with the chance of winning a money can’t buy festival experience…. 😉

Second to looking forward to the amazing music line up, planning your festival outfit has to be next on the list. And the best thing about fashion at music festivals is that rules literally don’t exist. It is all about FUN, the excitement of summer, music and spending the weekend with your friends.

You don’t necessarily need to put feathers in your hair or cover yourself in glitter face paint (although both are recommended) to stand out from the crowd this festival season. We have picked out a few festival staples that make a great outfit from our retailers here in Overgate.

Shoes must be comfy, and if rain should fall you shouldn’t worry about it ruining your shoes or having to spend the day with wet feet! Go for rugged styles; ankle boots, trainers or wellies are often a favourite. If we get lucky enough for the sun to be shining (fingers crossed), opt for sandals. The gladiator style is still popular.

Check out the ranges available from Office, Schuh, New Look, River Island and Primark. #

Bare legs are a major hit at music festivals because they’re comfy, cool, and let’s face it, all the best outfits feature bare legs. Miniskirts, playsuits, dresses, denim, everything works. Pair with knee high socks and wellies and your good to go, even on the worst of days.
Superdry, Topshop, H&M, Oasis, Debenhams, Next, Quiz, New Look, Primark…we are spoiling you for choice on this one.

A disposable poncho is a festival essential! Pick up yours from Flying Tiger and don’t be the one who is left to get soaked through by the typical Scottish weather.

However, if we are lucky enough to be blessed with sunshine and blue skies, Kimonos and oversized checked shirts are the bohemian version of a jacket. More for show rather than keeping you warm, but they do look amazing at a festival.

Always go for funky styles, statement accessories that look fab will add that needed razzmatazz and bring any outfit alive.

Oversized sunglasses, body chains, head-pieces, hats, necklaces, cross-body bags/backpacks, bangles, rings and a choker, you can never have wear too many accessories, right? And you don’t need to break the bank either with affordable jewellery available from across our fashion retailers.

So the bottom line is, never worry about styling. Everything goes with everything when its festival fashion.
