Guide Dogs Taykover

In the lead up to the very exciting guide dog Taykover event in Dundee City Square on Saturday 2nd July, we were lucky enough to be invited to the Guide Dogs base in Forfar for a tour and to find out more about what the organisation does.

To start, we got to watch a short demonstration from 5 dogs and their trainers. At any one time, there can be up to 120 dogs in training at the centre based in Forfar.

It’s not all work and no play for the dogs and the facilities available for them are amazing. With underfloor heating in their kennels and an outdoor run, the whole building is designed around the dogs.

The Taykover event will take place in Dundee City Square to celebrate 50 years of Guide Dogs in Forfar and the aim is to help raise valuable funds for Guide Dogs whilst having a day of fun.

The day will include a Dogs Unite walk across the Tay road bridge, dog demonstrations, an exciting programme of activities in the city centre, stalls and a special guest to kick things off! You will also have the chance to experience what it is like to be blind in a sensory tunnel exhibition van.

Warm up to the day by taking part in our Guide Dogs treasure hunt in Overgate from 26th June. Collect an entry form from our Customer Service Desk and once you have found all the clues you will be entered in to a prize draw. Prizes include a £50 Overgate gift card, a family pass for Cineworld Dundee and lunch for two at Five Guys.
