I’m a little overdue in writing this blogpost but I’ve been so busy lately with work and final wedding preparations that time has just flown by. But better late than never right?!

On Saturday 2nd of April the Overgate shopping centre hosted ‘Fashion Live’, an event dedicated to showcasing the best Spring fashion and beauty picks from retailers in the centre such as Topshop, Office, Urban Decay and Lush. Along with other local bloggers and vloggers, I was invited to come along, experience the day and blog about the event.

The main thing I took away from the event (apart from the amazing goody bag I was given- thanks!) was that the key way to ensure you tick all the boxes for Spring fashion trends is to focus on creating a capsule wardrobe.

A lot of us have heard this phrase before but what does it actually mean? Well it means investing in key pieces – items that can be dressed up or dressed down and that cover a lot of trends. By buying a few on-trend items you will be able to create numerous looks that cover the top Spring/Summer 2016 fashion trends without necessarily breaking the bank.

Some of the trends that were focused on at Fashion Live included : Boho, Monochrome, Blush Pink, and Nautical. Don’t some of these trends sound familiar? That’s probably because these are key trends that keep coming back around each year- even more reason to invest in items that cover a lot of these!

Here are three of my favourite investment pieces that can be mixed up and will guarantee you are always on trend this (and probably next) S/S.

Topshop blush pink mac (£85)

This is the perfect lightweight coat for spring/summer. Its blush pink hue ticks all the boxes for the pale pink, feminine, floral trends and it can be worn over just about anything making it a real transitional piece. Whether you wear it during the day over a simple tshirt and jeans, at a wedding over a floral tea dress or at night over tailored black trousers and a fancy top, this mac will cover a lot of bases.

Topshop stripe crop jumper  (£26)

This crop jumper covers two trends : monochrome and nautical, thanks to the stripes. This can be paired with a pair of causal jeans or cut-off shorts if the weather cooperates! Likewise it would create a seriously chic look paired with cigarette trousers and heels for an evening out.

H&M fringed sandals (£12)

Another item which covers two trends are these pale pink, fringed (boho) sandals. Again these can be paired with a lot of different looks! Wear them with jeans, cut-offs, a simple day dress or even a jumpsuit. These sandals offer a way of giving a subtle nod to the boho look, because not everyone wants to go all out all the time (and that’s ok!).

I had a great time at Fashion Live and I hope they’ll do the same later on this year for Autumn/Winter fashion. At the event I also managed to snag a few Lush freebies so keep your eyes peeled for a review of some of their products soon.

Happy investing!
